Principal's Corner

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to a new and exciting year at Wilmer Elementary School. I am excited to begin the 2017-2018 school year and I look forward to the challenge of another year and the opportunity to work together with you and your child.

I will continue to use the phone and email messenger system to notify you of certain events throughout the year. It is important that we have correct phone numbers and email addresses; please update these numbers and addresses as they change.

All students in Mobile County Public Schools will receive a government subsidized (free) breakfast and lunch. If you have a child with special dietary needs, the Child Nutrition Program will accommodate their needs. The cafeteria manager has copies of the form- “Diet Prescription for Meals at School”- which should be completed by a physician. A new form should be submitted every school year. This applies to all students. If needed, please send a note to your child’s teacher to request a form.

If your child will be taking any prescription or over the counter medications at school, please make sure the correct forms are submitted to Mr. Westbrook. Parents are required to bring these medications to school.

Snack prices continue to be .50 per item. We offer bottled water and chips for sale each morning before school begins. Please make sure your student has correct change.

Students arriving by car should be dropped off at the south end of the building. Please do not drop off your child at the front of the school or park in the front of the school. Parking is available at the south end of the building. Buses will off load at the north end of the building and we do not want to create an unsafe situation for students or parents. Students are to be dropped off after 7:50 each morning in the car line. Students may be picked up at 3:15 each afternoon from the car line. Students riding buses are dropped off at 7:50 each morning and picked up at 3:15 each afternoon.

Please remember that everyone on your student’s contact list (including you) will need to present a photo ID every time they enter the school for any reason. No student will be allowed to see or be released to anyone who is not on the emergency contact list, and who does not have a photo id. This is a safety issue and will be followed at all times. Please plan for emergencies.

You will be receiving a copy of the Student/Parent Handbook for 2017-2018 In addition, a copy of the student code of conduct for Mobile County is available at under the parent heading. It is important that you take time to read and discuss the information from these publications with your child. By doing this, both you and your child will become familiar with expectations set forth by the Mobile County School Board and Wilmer Elementary.

I look forward to working with you this year and ask that you contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns. Thanks for your support.
